PRAYER OF A PIT BULL

Spirit in the sky, who watches over all animals:
It is my prayer and my request that you grant greater understanding,
and acceptance to humans; those who love us, and those who hate us

That they will know how loyal we are, how brave we are, and how loving we are.
Help them to accept us as a breed in whole,
and not to let the few tragedies shine brighter
than the many great traits that we have.

And those who would kill me, let them know, I forgive them
Even though I don't understand their hatred.
And those who would beat me, let them know I still love them
Even though it is not the honorable way

Thank you for all the strong traits that you have given me, and my breed.
Help those to know that I stand for courage, strength, loyalty and bravery.
And as my master already knows, let those who would come against my family
know that I would surely die defending them.

And just one last thing that I would ask; let my master know,
That if you should call me away, that I will wait patiently at those pearly gates

What is the difference between the American Pit Bull Terrier and the American Staffordshire Terrier?

A SEPARATE STRAIN
In May 1936, a group of American Pit Bull Terrier fanciers who wanted to exhibit their dogs at shows formed the Staffordshire Terrier Club of America. The club's purpose was to achieve American Kennel Club (AKC) recognition for the breed, since neither the United Kennel Club nor the American Dog Breeders Association held shows at the time. In June 1936, the breed was accepted by the American Kennel Club under the name American Staffordshire Terrier. Some American Pit Bull Terrier breeders immediately switched their dogs over to AKC registration. Others continued to register with UKC and/or ADBA, but registered with the AKC as well. Breeders who had no interest in showing their dogs did not register with AKC.

Not everyone who registered their dogs with AKC during those early years was anti-dogfighting and pro-show. Some dogs made a name in both the pit and the ring. As time passed, fewer and fewer breeders of fighting dogs took part in dog shows and the Staffordshire Terrier (renamed American Staffordshire Terrier in 1972) became a separate rather distinct strain within the breed.

During the mid-1970's, both the United Kennel Club and the American Dog Breeders Association began sanctioning shows for American Pit Bull Terriers. Since then, the number of American Pit Bull Terriers entered in shows has grown steadily.
